We are all in this together, regardless of whether we try to imagine otherwise regardless of whether we escape the assumption of our responsibility for each other and for our planet.
Our collective imaginations
Our ability to form collective imaginations like money, nations, gods, corporations, organisations and universal human rights have helped humans succeed in collaboration with each other towards different goals throughout history (inspired by Yuval Noah Harari). Our imaginations enable us to collaborate in large numbers – even with strangers.
We know too well that all of our ideas have not been great. Humans can be everything, constructive and destructive, caring for all of us or just for some of us. It’s up to the stories we tell each other, I guess. The stories we create, believe in and share. The stories we talk and walk.
The imagination of universal human rights
In 2018, The Declaration of Human Rights turns 70. Universal human rights are a collective imagination that can and should secure every individual a healthy balance of freedom and safety.
Do we understand human rights and take them seriously? Do we practice them? Do we protect and respect them? Do we balance each others freedom and safety well?
Human rights are inherent in all human beings, whatever their nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, language or other status. Every individual is entitled to enjoy human rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.
Business & Human Rights
I recently studied and passed an exam in Business & Human Rights in english. I will occasionally blog in English, but mostly in Norwegian. Use of our (or others) mother tongue is key in communication and understanding, a crucial part of due diligence in the field of Human Rights.
Remember to always be a critical reader and thinker. Be aware that I can make mistakes, and please contact me if you see something i should improve. I am learning while writing and doing.
